LITERARY ANALYSIS TOPICS (Choose from TOPICS listed below)
Compare two (2) short stories. You will need to narrow the focus significantly and do a fair comparison. For example, you may compare two short stories by comparing/contrasting the protagonists (characterization), the settings, and the conflicts. The literary elements that you choose to compare/contrast are up to you. Simply, remember to include at least three (3) literary elements and include your Literary LENS.
OR
Compare and interpret two (2) poems. Explain how three (3) literary elements help carry the overriding theme or message in the poems. Pay special attention to the speaker, situation, and emotion present in each and include your Literary LENS.
OR
Compare and interpret one (1) short story and one (1) poem. Explain how three (3) literary elements help carry the overriding message in these works. Pay special attention to the speaker, narrator/characters, settings, theme, and/or tone in each and include your Literary LENS.
Either way, you MUST look at how at least three (3) literary elements – conflict, symbolism, personification, theme, imagery, setting, characterization, etc. – are present in the text(s) and include your Literary LENS. This sort of focus will help you go BEYOND PLOT SUMMARY.
